Travelling South Africa

I have been so fortunate to work on Jobs the last few months that have literally taken me across the width and breadth of South Africa. Liquifruit for Bruce Paynter at CAB Films was a stunning job to be involved in. Not only did it take us to some of the most remote and beautiful places along the western Cape, but the entire crew became like second family. We had many a fun night on away shoots and I think there are a few bar owners happy to see the commercial finished. We travelled to places I'd never heard of, amongst them Piketberg, Niewoudsville and Vredendal and these are all places I will travel to again. Many a lifelong friendship was made along the way, as well as, if I don't say so myself, a really stunning commercial. Whilst in the middle of this I also edited Frisco for Bruce and FoxP2 - this was a lovely performance piece that was great fun to edit. After a very brief respite I was back on the road again - this time for a 7 day roadtrip for Pick n Pay, for Hylton at Bioscope Films. This time the roadtrip took us to the opposite side of SA. We started in Joburg, traversed the free state, made our way to kwazulu natal and ended it all in Cape Town. This endevour netted about 9 hours of footage all in all, capturing some of the most unique people that make up our rainbow nation. Whilst editing 9 hours of footage down to a 60 seconder was a big challenge, the job was a pleasure. In the midst of this I managed to edit a sealy commercial for Hylton which was filmed in a crypt in a church in Cape Town. It's not on air yet but watch out for it. It's fantastic.

So now I'm back home with a week off and have realised that I have had an experience the last few months that not many editors get in a lifetime.
